OUR EQUIPMENT

We currently have two listening and digital audio work stations.  Here are the specs for each:

VINYL CONVERSION

1. We clean your vinyl using the same process we do with selling.  See Selling Process.

2. We capture your record at 96/24 as a raw file.

3. We remove clicks with our special click removal process.

4. If needed, we run the files through noise removal to remove some of the surface noise.  98% of the time we skip this step so we keep your music sounding bright.

5. Insert the track labels using the record and Wikipedia or Discogs timings.

6. Adjust the labels manually using the sound from the capture.

7. Trim excess time between sides of the album, from the start, and from the end.

8. Remove noise between songs if there is an actual dead spot.  We don’t do this with live albums or albums such as The Dark Side of the Moon where there is no dead time between songs.

9. Export the individual songs in Free Lossless Audio Coded (FLAC) format.

10. Convert the music to your preferred format.

11. Add the meta data to the files.  This embeds the artist, album artist, album title, track number and title, the genre, and the cover into the file

CASSETTE CONVERSION

1. Clean the Deck heads on capstan if needed.

2. Fast forward all the way through side one.

3. Fast forward all the way through side two.  The last two steps loosen up the tape in case it has been a while since the cassette has been played.

4. Capture your cassette at 96/24 as a raw file.

5. Run the audio through noise removal to remove some of the tape hiss and noise.

6. Insert the track labels using the cassette, Wikipedia, or Discogs timings.

7. Remove noise between songs if there is an actual dead spot.  We don’t do this with live albums or albums such as The Dark Side of the Moon where there is no dead time between songs.

8. Export the individual songs in FLAC format.

9. Convert the music to your preferred format.

10. Add the meta data to the files.  This embeds the artist, album artist, album title, track number and title, the genre, and the cover into the file

VINYL OR CASSETTE CONVERSION

This page explains our processes for converting your vinyl LPs/singles and cassettes to digital formats such as mp3s or CDs.  For an example of how steps in the process enhance the sound of your original vinyl, please see Sound Samples.
